How meditation can increase your chances of conceiving

Here's a question I got asked inside my Hopeful and Calm Fertility Wellness Community during our monthly Q + A call: 

"how do I keep balance in this journey? I’m preparing for my frozen transfer and I have to put 3 alarms in my day not to forget medication…sometimes I feel more on autopilot..."

My answer:

In order to stay mentally and emotionally grounded during hormones injections (or any other uncomfortable medical procedure) you first need AWARENESS. 

What does this mean?

You need to notice the thoughts you are thinking (or words you are saying) to yourself DURING the action (hormone injection, insemination, intercourse, etc.). 

Because you cannot change what you are not aware of. 

Once you become aware you can insert kinder words or different thoughts which will change your emotional response (as well as your actions and results!). 

Here's a concrete example:

If while injecting yourself with hormones you are thinking: this is SO awful and uncomfortable, I hate this (which might be true), your emotional response will go into sadness, fear, or maybe despair. 

But what if you could insert kinder words like: although this injection may hurt it will help bring me one step closer to conceiving my baby.

With the focus shifted to talking to your body with love and kindness, and this helping you become a mother, your emotional response will be more balanced, and you may even be able to feel excitement and joy. 
 
Now if that doesn't seem possible to you right now, please know that changing your mindset is simply a skill that requires practice. A great place to start practicing this skill is through meditation.

Why meditation you may ask? 

Because meditation helps you become more AWARE of your internal voice. And once you become more aware you can insert kinder words or different thoughts which will change your emotional response!

    I spent over half my life studying the sciences, specifically physiology and neuroscience. Then, while teaching science to high school students, I developed an interest in yoga. It was the only activity I found that was able to help my migraines and debilitating anxiety. I have devoted the last decade of my life to 1) becoming a mom and 2) immersing myself in the study of yoga and Eastern medicine. Today, I am passionate about bridging together Western and Eastern sciences to better understand the reasons why many women have difficulty becoming and staying pregnant.
